HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is a law that protects your client’s privacy. As an ABA therapist, it’s your responsibility to keep all client information confidential.

Only share client information with authorized members of the care team:
Other approved family members
Teachers or other related service providers
Parents/guardians
BCBA

Full name, age, address, phone number
Diagnosis or medical info

Simple Steps to Keep Client Information Safe
Avoid discussing clients with anyone outside the care team
Do not take calls where others can overhear
Keep client info off social media
Use full names only in secure emails; otherwise, use initials
Never take photos or videos without permission
Only use video chat when approved
Store notes and documents securely
Avoid personal or social contact with clients or their families
